India’ DDA invites bids to build 10,500 flats for slum residents in Delhi

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in India has reportedly invited bids for the construction of nearly 10,500 flats across the city.

The projects to build new flats for economically weaker sections (EWS) will be implemented on a public private partnership (PPP) basis.

To recover the construction costs of the EWS housing, the contractor will have right to develop commercial space.

Plans for the project involves construction of 3,367 units in Dilshad Gardent, 1,116 dwelling units in Shalimar Bagh, 4,056 units in Rohini sectors 18, 19 and 20, and 1,800 units in Haiderpur.

According to the tender documents, the construction area for the EWS housing covers up on 65.75% of the land and the remaining will be used by the builder as a remunerative component.

About 499 clusters, out of 675 slum clusters in Delhi, are on Central government land that includes plots owned by the Northern Railways and the DDA.

The DDA will complete the in-situ redevelopment of 376 clusters under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban).

A senior official said: “We are in the process of finalising a few more projects, the tenders for which will be floated shortly. The survey of eligible beneficiaries has been completed.”

The land-owning agency commenced the household survey work in 23 slum clusters in 2019,
Earlier this year, the DDA decided to build nearly 26,000 flats for residents of 16 slum clusters.

At present, three in-situ redevelopment projects to build 5,990 flats are underway at Katputhli Colony, Jailorwala Bagh and Kalkaji Extension.

A senior DDA official stated that the land-owning agency will begin work to allot flats in Kalkaji Extension project by January next year.
