Tolent begins first phase of works on €50m Brett Wharf development, UK

Contractor Tolent has begun the first phase of works on the ?50m Brett Wharf development in Gateshead, UK.

The site on Gateshead’s quayside will lead to creation of 269 one and two-bed apartments for rent, besides commercial space, flexible offices, coffee shops and restaurants.

The company commenced specialist remediation work at the beginning of November to clean up the earlier oil storage depot location.

This work is expected to continue until spring 2022, and after which Tolent will begin the main construction work on behalf of client Edmond de Rothschild Real Estate Investment Management (REIM).

This development scheme also represents the latest collaboration between Tolent and Newcastle-based DPP Planning.

Following receipt of planning approval for the original development, DPP has been retained by REIM and Tolent for management of post-decision planning requirements, which include the details on managing the groundworks and in areas such as decisions over final materials and signage.

Brett Wharf comes after other collaborations between DPP Planning and Tolent in the recent years. These collaborations include Milburngate on Durham’s Riverside, Newcastle’s tallest building, Hadrian’s Tower and Berwick Leisure Centre.

Tolent contracts manager Steve Church said: “This is a hugely significant project for the city and we’re delighted to be a part of the ongoing regeneration of Gateshead’s quayside.

“With a wealth of experience in the residential sector across the North East, including projects like Hadrian’s Tower in Newcastle and the mixed-use, ?85m Milburngate development in Durham, this will be another fantastic project we can proudly put out name to.

“We’re also pleased to again be working with DPP on another landmark North East project continuing the excellent relationship our two businesses have.”

DPP director Jo Robison said: “Brett Wharf is another important part of the regeneration of the banks of the Tyne, which will create high quality homes in Gateshead. Collaborating with Tolent has always been a positive experience and we are keen to continue our successful partnership with the delivery of Brett Wharf.”
