McDermott wins EPCI contract for North Field Expansion project in Qatar

McDermott Middle East has secured an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract from QatarEnergy for the offshore facilities of the North Field Expansion project.

Through the North Field South (NFS) and North Field East (NFE) expansion projects, the LNG production capacity in Qatar is expected to increase from 77 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 126 MTPA.

The LNG production from the expansion project is anticipated to begin in 2025.

Under the contract, McDermott will be responsible for providing 13 normally uncrewed wellhead platforms topsides that include five for NFS and eight for NFE.

Additionally, the company will provide beach valve stations, and buildings, various connecting pipelines and shore approaches for the NFE pipelines.

Qatar Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy president and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said: “The award of this major EPCI contract is a momentous milestone that demonstrates QatarEnergy’s commitment to delivering our LNG expansion projects on time, and to ensure the significant additional global LNG demand is catered for in a timely manner.

“We are confident that the effective collaboration between QatarEnergy, Qatargas and McDermott will result in the safe and successful delivery of the project according to plan.”

The company will launch a separate tender for the pipelines and jackets for the NFS project and the contract will be awarded in the first half of this year.

In August last year, McDermott’s subsidiary CB&I Storage Solutions business secured a contract to construct a second LNG storage tank at the Philippines LNG import and regasification terminal, named Philippines LNG (PLNG), in Batangas Bay.

The contract was awarded by the project developer Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Company of Manila (AG&P).
