Stepnell starts construction on €5.1m children’s residential care home in the UK

Stepnell has started construction work on a ?5.1m purpose-built residential care home for children in Warwickshire, the UK.

The brand-new development, named The Forge, will comprise four stand-alone residential care buildings and associated community facilities.

The facility, which is being built off Plough Hill Road in Nuneaton, is designed to provide a safe, secure and encouraging place for up to 20 children with emotional and behavioural disorders or recovering from early childhood trauma.

Designed by architects IDP, The Forge is being developed by children’s home provider Forge Care and will include 21 car parking spaces, along with two disabled spaces and cycle parking for staff.

Stepnell stated that each of the four individual buildings will have a reception, main lounge, kitchen, quiet space, games, and an activity space along with five en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, to replicate the traditional family home layout.

Children will also have access to large play areas that support mental and physical health including yoga and meditation amenities along with external dining and BBQs for the warmer months.

The construction work on the development is expected to be finished by Christmas this year and the existing community building will remain on site.

Forge Care director Gavin Miller said: “We are excited to have this flagship project underway, The Forge is a trauma-informed service that evolves as a whole system underpinned by the Sanctuary Model.

“Within our Therapeutic Community environment the social relationships, structure of the day and activities are all deliberately designed to facilitate learning, and develop people’s personal, social health and wellbeing.”
