The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded a civil contract worth $793.6m (S$1.05bn) to China Jingye Engineering (Singapore Branch) for the Changi East Depot for Cross Island Line (CRL).

Under the contract, China Jingye Engineering will be responsible for the design and construction of 57-hectare Changi East Depot, which is located near Changi Exhibition Centre.

Work also involves architectural, structural, electrical, civil and mechanical works as well as the provision of administration, operation, maintenance, and support facilities in the depot.

The depot will also include an operations control centre as well as maintenance and stabling facilities for 70 CRL trains.

CRL, Singapore’s eighth MRT line, will serve the existing and future developments in the eastern, north-eastern and western corridors connecting major hubs including Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region.

LTA stated that the construction of the Changi East Depot is expected to commence in the second half of this year and is estimated to be completed in 2030.

Currently, China Jingye Engineering is working on the construction of Bedok South station as well as the tunnels on the Thomson-East Coast Line.

Recently, LTA awarded the civil contract worth S$241m to China Harbour (Singapore) Engineering Company to build two Jurong Region Line (JRL) stations.

The scope of work under the contract involved design and construction of two JRL stations, JS9 and JS10, in the vicinity of Enterprise Road and Jalan Tukang.

It also includes construction of a 5km-long viaduct between the stations, over Jurong Central Park and Jalan Boon Lay.
